Subject: Help Support the Mudcat From: Max Date: 22 Jul 98 - 11:17 PM Hi guys, I just added a few easy ways to help finance the Mudcat and the Digitrad. I have tapped into a few commission deals with some of my clients and some of the major internet commerce companies such as Amazon.com. Purchasing any products from any of these companies through the special links that I have set up and the mudcat will get a cut while paying the exact same price as if you where to buy direct. Anyhow, take the "Help Support the Mudcat" link and read all about it. I have some great new features around the corner, and six new bio's tonight. Check them out, and hold on to your hats.

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Barbara Date: 23 Jul 98 - 02:03 AM Wonderful, Max, I really like it that you make it easy to throw money at you and the sponsors. Say, how did you folks come up with the name 'Mudcat' anyway? It's a kind of catfish, right? Just thought it added the right touch of class? Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Max Date: 23 Jul 98 - 02:14 AM Yes, a mudcat is a catfish. The story goes that me and some friends made a habit of jammin in one of the guys basements. He had a sound system that made it sound just like it would in a bar. One day, for no real reason, I started the jam with "Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Mudcat Cafe!", and it soon became tradition to begin every jam that way. It's a dream of mine to own an actual establishment called The Mudcat Cafe... and start every night that way. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Jenny Date: 23 Jul 98 - 10:30 PM I would most definitely like to support the Mudcat, however, I seem to be batting zero when it comes to receiving responses to my emails to Max. One was quite a while back when I wanted to join and asked when there would be a secure site, so I could join with my credit card. The other was to change my pseudonym from "China Doll" to "Jenny." So, while I really enjoy the site, my confidence in its administrator is skewed. Jenny |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Barbara Date: 24 Jul 98 - 12:29 PM Say Max, I'm guessing you are still working on the upgrade, but if you are done, on the support page the 'secure link to donate on-line' keeps coming up as an error message for me. Something about missing parameters for the cookie MEMBERID. Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Max Date: 27 Jul 98 - 01:08 PM Jenny, very sorry. With all the web things I do, I get over 100 emails ( no joke) per day and it is hard for me to keep up with them. I have a major upgrade planned soon, I think I will try to win you back by creating a web based message system for you to communicate with me so Mudcat emails don't get mixed in with the rest of stuff I get. Hang in there guys, I am doing the best I can with the time I have available. Soon I hope, I will be able to give more attention to the Mudcat. I consider it successfull because of all the visitors we get and how loyal our gang is, but in the three years of running it, we have only ever gotten about $200 for our efforts. With a family to support, this just doesn't hold up with the things that put food on the table. Sometimes ones hobbies become more like a job but without the paycheck. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Barbara Date: 27 Jul 98 - 03:51 PM Hey Max, I think you're doing a great job. I 'll have to find some other way to throw money at you instead of the online link, that's all. In the meantime consider this cheering. Yay Max, Yay Dick and Susan and all the other behind the scenes folks I don't know about! Thanks for making this place great. Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Max Date: 27 Jul 98 - 04:03 PM Oh, by the way, I think i fixed the error on the donation page. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Jenny Date: 28 Jul 98 - 02:41 AM Max ... You don't have to win me back ... I never left! I would just like an online way to join and make donations. I'm finding in my old age (turned 50 on July 20 and keep looking in the mirror to see if it's noticeable) that I like to do things in a more spontaneous fashion, and being able to purchase, donate, whatever, online, is great for me. Also, as I said, I'd like to change my "Chinadoll" pseudonym to my real name of Jenny. I feel really safe in the Mudcat and don't feel the need for secrecy. So, keep up the great work. It's a wonderful site and I would hate to see it's integrity diminished. ttfn ... jenny |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Sheye Date: 29 Jul 98 - 11:10 PM Hi Max! Oh, oh! Confessions of a land-locked sailor! Somewhere along the way, I got to thinkin' there really was a Mudcat Cafe. In this dream/psychosis, I have you in a little cafe in Connecticut! It's quite nice actually, kind of coffee house by day and candles and wine by night with a cool sound system in a darkened corner. Ancient shadows stroll by, picking up the always-present guitar and strum a tune to the spirits that wandered in with them. The artwork on the wall is postmodern and the day-time lighting breathes freshness into the air. Tableclothes are a light blue/white simple checkered pattern... I have no idea where I got this from. I don't even know where Connecticut is! But, make mine a latte!! Sheye |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Jul 98 - 11:29 PM Say, I passed through a southern Ontario town two weeks ago and noted that the name of the high school team was the Mudcats. I meant to look around and see if I could find a copy of the team logo, but then I forgot. After that, I even forgot the name of the town. My intentions were good, though.... -Joe Offer- Looks like Mudcat is not that unusual a name. Click here and here. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Max Date: 03 Aug 98 - 12:29 PM Someone from Catapillar (big yellow industrial machines) threatened me about using the name mudcat. Turns out they have it copyrighted for a dredging machine of sorts. Anyhow, I sold them mudcat.com which I owned and used to use for this site. I made them donate $500 to the charity of their choice, and $500 to the mudcat, and now they leave me alone. They weren't very nice about it all though, so when they get a site up at mudcat.com, everyone send them an email asking them about songs and stuff, that will pay back the Karma they lost on me. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Bill D Date: 03 Aug 98 - 02:13 PM We ought to collectively write a ballad for them..*wink* Could call it "The EarthMover Moved for Me"..or "Don't Push Me Around, or I'll Sing at You" or, maybe not... |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Big Mick Date: 06 Aug 98 - 10:31 AM You can count on me for support for the Mudcat. It is fantastic to be able to communicate with Art, Frank of the Nenagh Singers Circle, Joe, Cuillon, Sheye, alison, et al. Let me know when the secure link is right and I will be there. I also will order through Amazon and all the others. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Max Date: 06 Aug 98 - 12:40 PM I added something new and I wanna get your reactions to it. Now, when you search the Digitrad Database or find a song in the database, you have the ability to do the same search or find the song at CDNOW or Music Blvd, or do a general keyword search at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. You will see this at the top of the pages while searching the Digitrad. I tried to keep it subtle, and figure it's OK because it is pretty cool and provides a useful service by finding songs on albums and raising money for the mudcat. If anyone thinks this is tacky or anti-mudcat in any way, let me know and we'll talk about it. Also just a note: Make sure you check out the support page every once in a while. We are adding new things nearly every day. Soon I will provide icons and links to the mudcat and to the URLs that help support us so that you all with websites can have a nice link to us. Happy Trails. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Aug 98 - 04:02 PM That's a great idea, Max. Many times, there are RealAudio clips of songs at CDNOW and Musicblvd. Maybe you should check with www.tunes.com and see if Mudcat can get something by linking to them - they seem to have a wider selection of RealAudio clips. I ordered something through the Mudcat link to CDNOW the other day. Can you tell if we actually got a cut from my order, Max? -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Max Date: 06 Aug 98 - 04:42 PM Yes Joe, each of the companies that we do this with have a reporting site that you can go and see how many people clicked, browsed and bought at each site. I'm trying to figure out a way to automate all the different sites I have to go to into one spot so we can all see it. Soon maybe. I'll check out tunes.com and many others. We are working on technology to track all that stuff down and link it into what we do and talk about. It has to be somewhat automated or it turns into a full time job. |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Big Mick Date: 06 Aug 98 - 09:43 PM Max, Great idea! I have absolutely no problem with doing this. Contrary to it being a problem, I believe it enhances Mudcat/DT. And it makes it easier for me to order in a way that helps us. Good move. Mick |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Roger Himler Date: 06 Aug 98 - 09:45 PM Max, I've begun to link my purchase through Mudcat. I like the new connections in my first try. I went to Step It Up Mary in the DT and got the links at the top. I tried CDNow. However there was a snag in the search. The title was converted somehow to "%Step It Up Mary%" which bamboozled the search. I went to the find button and was able to search by typing in the title. It certainly is a conundrum for me. I love the easy access to the Mudcat. Yet, I also understand that a work of love can work you to death and take all your money besides. To date, all of your steps seem pretty unobtrusive (especially compared to for-profit sites). This latest seems to provide some added benefits as Joe notes for RA clips. You let us know when those 3X T-shirts come in. And if you decide to go to the FSGW gathering in October, let us know. I have a mighty conflict that could prevent me from going, but I would fight very hard against it just forthe opportunity to meet you, shake your hand, and say thanks. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Date: 07 Aug 98 - 12:44 AM Max: FANTASTIC!! The links to the different distributors are magnificent! I appreciate, especially, that these links will help you find real audio of tunes/songs that aren't even necessarily in the DT. When I first came across this site 10 months ago, it wasn't long before it became my favorite site: a must-visit-daily site. Well, in the past 10 months, this site has grown, changed, improved, developed by leaps and bounds! It is still the most useful site for my needs, and I must visit daily still! Surely you must be tired of hearing this by now Max, Dick, Susan et. al, but thank you for all your efforts and hard work in creating and maintaining such a wonderful database, andalso such a fantastic community! Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Rudy Ramsey Date: 15 Aug 98 - 08:00 PM I posted a question on a thread here a few days ago, but now I can't find the thread to see if there was an answer. With apologies to anyone who already answered, I'll try again. Do you plan to have tax-exempt status (such as 501(c)(3)), and if so, do you have any idea when? I'm going to make a donation to Mudcat in either case, but would like to time it correctly, if this is something that's coming. I remember seeing a note on your donations page that you didn't have it "yet". Thanks. Rudy |

Subject: RE: Help Support the Mudcat From: Roger Himler Date: 16 Aug 98 - 06:18 PM Rudy, You posted on August 5, 1998, and, yes, you still do not have an answer. However, if you should want to look again and can't remember the thread title, you can go to the Main Forum page, and click on forum search. There you can search for threads by title, keyword, and user name (that's Rudy Ramsey). That's how I checked for you. Good luck in the future on the Mudcat. Roger in Baltimore |
