CHORUS: My old cottage home, my old cottage home, That stands on the brow of the hill, Where in life's early morning I once loved to roam, But now all is quiet and still. 2. Many years have gone by since in prayer there I knelt With dear ones around the old hearth, But my mother's sweet prayers in my heart still are felt. I'll treasure them up while on earth. 3. One by one they have gone from the old cottage home. On earth we shall see them no more, But we'll meet them again on that beautiful shore, Where partings will come never more. Actually the song was recorded in 1930 and was written in 1880 by R. A. Glenn, published in a 1904 songbook and recorded six times before the Carters. The above is how I've heard it. I welcome corrections. |

Let me know of any other songs. I don't always get the lyrics correct, but may be there are enough of us out there that we can. I have asked at various times in this forum if there is a song site or book which has the Carter songs. Have not found such to this point. Also, both AP and Maybelle would change the lyrics from time to time. |
