My friend Claudia noticed that a verse and the tune for this song are missing from the database, and she wanted to make a contribution.

WHERE THE ROSES NEVER FADE
by Elsie, Jack & Jim ©copyright, 1942, by Stamps-Baxter Music & Ptg. Co.

I am going to a city
Where the streets with gold are laid
And the tree of life is blooming
And the roses never fade.

(Chorus)
Here they bloom but for a season
Soon their beauty is decayed
I am going to a city
Where the roses never fade.

In this world we have our trials
Satan's snares we must delay
We'll be free from all temptation
Where the roses never fade.
(Chorus)

Loved ones gone to be with Jesus
In their robes of white arrayed
Now are waiting for my coming
Where the roses never fade.
(Chorus)

Thanks, Joe and Claudia! I first heard this song at a bluegrass festival harmony workshop on Prince Edward Island a few years ago, and hunted around to find the song after we got home to Connecticut. Finally found it by asking (can't remember his name) who sells tapes and CD's at Winterhawk in NY if he knew the song. He did, and pointed me to a Wayne Lewis (former lead singer with Blue Grass Boys) album. The lyrics I put on the DT are from that recording.

The song is beautiful, and I'm really glad to have another verse.

The song is a favorite with some of the old time groups around here, and is nicely done. I have done a little research into why authorship is credited to Elsie, Jim and Jack, who they might have been, why no last names, etc., but have not turned up anything yet.
