howdy. just fell in here while looking for some hard to find lyrics. anybody got lyrics to "staggerlee"? all i remember is the beginning

"i was standing on the corner when i heard my bulldog bark
he was barkin' at two men who were gambling in the dark".

been trying to get words also to the chad mitchell song "super skier", of which i can only remember

"...he was really doing fine until he ran into that pine,
and two one-legged skiers left from there.
chorus: "he was running down the slopes at 90 miles and hour
when he caught an edge on his skies
well his clothes they were fast but the slopes they were faster
that's the last of super skier we shall see".

it was a parody of the ballad of the mta by the kingston trio. aw heck, while i'm at it, anybody know the words to "does your chewing gum lose its flavor(on the bedpost over night)? thanks j colby

Colby, welcome to Mudcat

Click here to get to a previous thread which discussed Staggerlee. But the words you mention aren't in any of the versions presented there. There are three versions in the DT database already, go to the search box in the upper right corner of the screen and enter STAGLEE* to get all three.

As for Super Skier, now why would you want the lyrics to that song at this point in history, I wonder yesss I wonder gollum gollum. Anyway I can't help you there. Neither for chewing gum, although many such songs were mentioned in the "naughty kids greatest hits" and related threads a few months ago. Try doing a forum body search. BTW, that wouldn't be sung to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" would it?

I think those words are from the Loyd Price version which has become an R&B standard.

Another "I could have sworn I entered that song." Super Skier should be in the IOCA Song Book. I'll try to enter it this weekend.

This version of Stagerlee was a popular one in the 50s.

The continuation of it goes something like:

It was Stagerlee and Billie
Two men who gambled late
Stagerlee throwed a seven,
Billie said the throwed an eight

Starerlee shot Billie, he shot that boy so bad
That the bullet went through him and broke my window glass

I have a feeling that there was a version with the same words, but "smoothed out" and sung at a slower tempo done in the 60s by one of the popular folksingers.

Murray

I will put the "chewing gum" in another string.

Super skier is NOT in the IOCA songbook. Anyone else know it or shall I try to post fragments?

There was a recent posting on the folk newsgroups which indicated that the incident in Stagger Lee was based on historical fact.
