OK, folkies, the new year is coming, and it's time to stop procrastinating. A few of us have finally gotten around to learning how to use Alan's handy-dandy utility for posting MIDI tunes on the forum. How 'bout the rest of us? It really isn't that hard.
I'd like to make this a tune pledge thread, so we can find out just who is able to use Alan's software, and who needs a little tutoring (or arm-twisting).
OK, so I will be the first:
I promise to do my best to do my duty and post a tune a week - whenever I have a truly traditional folk tune to post.
OK, who's next? Step right up. Now if a pledge thread doesn't work, we may just have to resort to an altar call.

Hi all

Euh, I'll try? If I can? And if I can find out how that funny-fangled thing works?

Selene

Define "truely traditional."

Now Earl, don't get into that mess again. As for me, I'll do my best to do my part in posting tunes, especially for non-blues lyrics. The blues are a little more difficult - I would probably have to post one tune for the vocal and another for accompaniment.

Jon W-

Blues are notoriously difficult to notate: probably the easiest way for most is to either write the melody down in 4/4 time (which makes them painfully square) or 12/8 time (which makes them sound like 1950's doo-wop. The vocal melody is probably what most people want; that's what I want, anyway.

"Truly Traditional": if the songwriter is dead, or should be......
-Joe Troublemaker-

Actually, I think we found in the early days of this forum that the arguments and unpleasantness about what is or is not traditional took up far more space than it would have taken for the lyrics that were in question. Let's not get into that fight again, although it might be a good idea to provide links rather than lyrics to songs that would be of no interest to the majority of people here.

I think 'traditional or not' is up to each contributor to contribute and the DT staff to figure out. People shouldnt have trouble with anything that anyone posts, so long as it attributes fairly and is someones best attempt.

Whatever Dick, Max, and the other DT angels include is fine with me. I dont think anyone would begrudge them the final say after all the work they do, or get angry at them for a song they dont want included in the DT.

Bo

(I actually think the Historical Notes and background for songs is very often more important than the tunes -- my 2 cents)
