Hi

I'm looking for a translation of the lyrics to this song whch Capercaillie do on the CD "Delirium."

Are any of you Gaelic speakers out there able to help?

I'll be happy with just the jist of what the song is about if that makes it any easier.

Thanks

Slainte

Alison

Alison - Here's the translation from the Capercaille home page. Now if someone would put this in cultural/historical perspective....

COME ON, MY LOVE

Come on my love, hú il oro,
keep your promise to me, o hi ibh o;
take greetings from me, hú il oro,
over to Harris, boch orainn o.

Take greetings from me
over to Harris
to John Campbell,
my brown-haired sweetheart.

To John Campbell,
my brown-haired sweetheart
hunter of goose
seal and swan;

Hunter of goose
seal and swan;
of leaping trout
of bellowing deer.

Wet is the night
tonight, and cold,
If the MacNeills
have put to sea;

If the MacNeills
have put to sea;
men of high sails
and swift ships;

Men of high sails
and swift ships;
and of banners
blue and green;

And of banners
blue and green;
no left-hander
could take the rudder from you.

You lucked out, alison, Delerium is the only album that has lyrics on this page.

FYI, you can get to many Celtic artists through the Ceolas bookmark on the links page. (If I were a html wiz I'd paste in a hypertext link here, but I've only just mastered the angle brackets trick).
