Subject: Another Stupid Question
From:
Date: 19 Sep 97 - 11:51 AM

The person-to-person message service is nifty, but I can't quite figure something out, and I wanted to know if it is my problem exclusively or if it is a shared experience. Then, if it isn't too much of a bother for the lovely folks here at The Mudcat, maybe they can tell me what to do to fix it.

When I get a new message, all the other messages turn to the new one, and all the senders names turn to the most recent senders name. This means that I can't review old messages, and if I get more than one message, I can only read the most recent posting. Haven't been able to send old messages to archive either. HEY, MEDIC!

Sorry for the bother,

Shula

Hmmmm. Is that your excuse for not answering my message, Shula? I have the same thing on my message inbox, but I think I can still retrieve messages. The names of the senders are all the same on the inbox, but the titles of the messages are different (at least they were, when people sent me mail). To read mail, I click on the message title, not the name of the sender.
By the way, how come your name isn't on the forum messages you've been posting lately? Didn't you register?

I see what you mean, Shula. I have the same problem. There is a fix, though. read the top message, and then archive it. You should then be able to read the next message. If that doesn't work, archive the messare, then delete it. If that doesn't work, holler real loud for Max!

I have the same problem. Sorry Dick if I puzzled you with a message on how to join the Scottish and the Cape Breton music e-lists -- it was your name that showed up for the return address although someone else had asked. Until I saw this post I just assumed that she was using your account for the posting.

My old messages are also showing up as new.

Dear Max,

Seems I've really messed up this time. Don't seem to be getting messages IN or OUT these days. Can I/you/we fix this before a lot of nice folks think I'm too ignorant to answer my mail? Grateful for any assistance. Sorry to put you to trouble. This is Cyber-heaven and I feel like a real twit complaining of anything. VIVE LE MUDCAT!

Shula

Hi, Shula. In the meantime, here's a fix I've discovered: read the message on the top of your list, and then archive or delete it. You should then be able to read the next one. I think it's safest to delete from the screen where you read the message, so you're sure you delete the right one.
I'll betcha Max will have those things fixed before long, but I suppose that every now and then he has to take time out to make a living.

Dear Joe,

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm still stuck, and my name doesn't always come up, membership notwithstanding, especially when I start a thread, so I just sign everything. Haven't had a response to the last message, (2nd on G&S), I sent you either, (or to several others); figure it never got there. Sent our entire songbook list to Susan of DT and never heard if she got it or not. Peter T. never said if he read "The Fish Wars," Bert's friend was going to send parody lyrics to "Happy Wanderer." Can't send French stuff to Dick. Oh, bother: my e-mail is: JMGD@juno.com, and the spam be damned!

As to capitalization of Yiddish nouns, your guess is as good as mine, but Speed-1 knows, and I'll bet others do as well. I'll ask her to send you an answer. Best I can do for now. Tant pis!

Shula

Dear Joe (again),

Stupid me! Yiddish is written in HEBREW -- ALL CAPS. "All the rest", ( to paraphrase Hillel)," is commentary", mere transliteration, in this case. Forgive me, I seem to be a "bis'l farblundget" (little bit fog-brained) today.

Oh well, never mind,

Shula
