Subject: Belly up to the Bar, Boys From: bc527@scn.org Date: 11 Jul 97 - 03:14 PM Does anyone have the lyrics to the song 'Belly up to the bar boys'? I had a copy of this song on an old '45 when I was a kid. Don't know what happened to it, and was trying the other day to remember the lyrics. It is a novelty drinking song. About all I can remember was the chorus, which was (approximately): Belly up, Belly up to the bar boys, Better loosen your belt Only drink when you're all alone or with somebody else Belly up, Belly up to the bar boys, ??????????????????? Only drink when it's day or night or somewhere in between. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Belly up to the Bar, Boys From: Jim Dixon Date: 12 Oct 09 - 10:41 PM BELLY UP TO THE BAR, BOYS is a song from the musical play "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" by Meredith Willson (New York: Putnam, 1961). Here's an excerpt: CHRISTMAS: Belly up, belly up to the bar, boys. Let your money be seen. MOLLY: Only drink by day or night or somewheres in between. ALL: Belly up, belly up to the bar, boys, Very good for your mind. MOLLY: Both feet on the rail will make you fall on your be — MINER #3: Hi-dle-dee-dle-die-dee like the Girl whose name was Nellie Though Nellie was kissing everybody else, just Had to marry Nellie or die, die, die. ALL: Had to marry Nellie or die, die, die. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Belly up to the Bar, Boys From: GUEST,Bryan Date: 02 May 19 - 01:59 AM Wow, I was just searching for these lyrics and found this thread, only to realize the original question was from me, 22 years ago, and the answer I never saw until now came in 10 years ago. The problem with the answer is that the Unsinkable Molly Brown number was a cover of an older drinking song and I believe the lyrics are different (though mostly the same). I got the 45 I mentioned from my grandmother when I was a young child, a few years before that movie came out, and I think it was old even when I got it. I don't know the artist. If anyone does, I'd appreciate, even if I don't find the answer for another decade. |

My 45 rpm was on Capitol, and it was sung by Billy May, Nelson Riddle, and Stan Kenton----with the Guy Lombardo orchestra backing them. The other side was After You've gone. 1960 is when that record came out. \ |
