Subject: Lyr Add: BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Jun 97 - 02:35 AM Well, it's a mere pop song, not a folk song, but here goes: BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON copyright 1930, Famous Music Corp., (renewed 1957) Words, Leo Robin Music, Richard A. Whiting and W. Franke Harling Beyond the Blue Horizon, Waits a beautiful day Goodbye to things that bore me, Joy is waiting for me. I see a new horizon, My life has only begun; Beyond the Blue Horizon Lies a setting sun. How come our parents could get by so well with these one-verse songs? Those folk songs with all the verses are real killers to memorize, especially at my age.... -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Lyr Add: BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON (verse) From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 May 18 - 07:41 PM BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON does indeed have a verse, and you can hear it sung by Jeanette Macdonald in this recording from 1950 at YouTube: Blow, whistle; blow away; blow away the past. Go, engine, anywhere; I don't care how fast. On, on, from darkness into dawn, from rain into the rainbow, fly with me. Gone, gone all my grief and woe; what matter where I go if I am free? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Beyond the Blue Horizon From: GUEST,Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 21 May 18 - 12:50 PM As regards those 1 verse songs Joe, I think a lot of it was to do with the early recordings. There was usually about 1 minute of instrumental, 1 minute vocal and another minute of instrumental. With only a minute to do the vocals, they didn't have time for more than a verse and a chorus! Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Beyond the Blue Horizon From: Jim Dixon Date: 21 May 18 - 02:52 PM Mick: I think you're right. Furthermore, I've noticed that sheet music from that era often contains additional verses and choruses that aren't on any recording. Which raises the question: what happened when those bands performed live, in a nightclub, or whatever venue? Did they do all the verses and choruses? Was the song cut down only for recordings? |
