Can anyone help with the words to this song. I don't know what the title is but the first few lines go:

Well, well, well, who's that a callin Well, well, well, hold my hand Well, well, well, night is a fallin Spirit is a movin all over this land

Let's try again....
I found the lyrics on the Peter, Paul and Mary Web site

WELL, WELL, WELL (Camp/ Gibson) Melody Trails. Inc. BMI

(REFRAIN):
Well, Well, Well, Who's that callin'?
Well, Well, Well, Hold my hand.
Well, Well, Well, Night is a-fallin',
Spirit is a-movin' all over this land.

Lord told Noah, Build him an ark,
Build it out of hickory bark.
Old ark a-movin', and the water start to climb,
God send a fire, not a flood next time. (REFRAIN)

God said fire comin' judgement day,
He said all mankind gonna pass away.
Brothers and sisters don't you know?
You're gonna reap just what you sow. (REFRAIN)

World's not waitin' for the Lord's command,
Buildin' a fire that'll sweep the land.
Thunder out of heaven, comin' Gabriel's call;
And the sea's gonna boil and the sky's gonna fall. (REFRAIN)

HTML line breaks added. --JoeClone, 19-Mar-02.

Joe Offer has already provided the words. The Bob Gibson and Hamilton Camp version of the song, a very good one in my opinion, can be found on a Vanguard album entitled Greatest Folksingers of the 'Sixties. The album is coded VSD-17/18. I believe I've seen it out on CD.

Thanks Joe and Ran for your replies. The words you sent Joe know fit into all my blank spaces. Now that you said Peter, Paul and Mary were the singers I remember them singing it. Ran, I'm not familiar with Gibson & Camp version but I'll look it up. Thanks again, Anne

To Joe Offer (or anyone else),

What is the URL of the Peter Paul & Mary site you mentioned in your note to this thread?

Thanks,

- R.S.

The version I remember was recorded by the Kingston Trio sometime in the last 60's. Regards

The Theatre Troupe to which i belong, also has a variation of this, in which we use "Hey" instead of well

Well, Well, Well is one of the signature songs performed by Gibson and Camp during their on-again, off-again years performing together. Written by Gibson, they added the song when they rerecorded their definitive folk album Gate Of Horn in 1986 as "... Revisited"; the song, however, had been written in 1960 (or shortly before) and had been a frequent request whenever they performed together.

Revisited is available on CD and can be purchased at Hamilton Camp's web site at hamiltoncamp.com. It includes both the songs and the between song comments as recorded originally at Gate Of Horn in Chicago in 1961. The original Gate Of Horn album (which did not include Well, Well, Well) was one of the most influential folk albums of its time. Gibson and Camp are often spoken of as being the bridge between the folk music of The Weavers and the singer/songwriter folk music of the 60s and 70s.

The recording of Well, Well, Well that appears on a number of folk anthologies is NOT from the 1986 release, but from the Vanguard recording from the 1960 Newport Folk Festival when Gibson and Camp performed together for the first time.
