Subject: Multiple Postings:HELP! From: LaMarca Date: 28 Apr 97 - 01:06 PM Dick, Mr. Mudcat or anyone else, There seem to be a LOT more multiple postings of the same messages lately. Do you know what causes this? Are there some suggestions you can put out to help us from doing this inadvertantly? It will speed things up if we don't have to wade through 6 or 7 postings of the same message... |

Subject: RE: Multiple Postings:HELP! From: Bert Hansell Date: 28 Apr 97 - 01:58 PM Try a single click on the submit message button and wait. It will need quite a long wait at times depending (I think) on the speed of your machine and the network. Maybe the good guys at DT could put a note to that effect on or by the submit message button. (just as a temporary measure until someone comes up with some usable network software.)
I am so used to giving a double click with the software that I use that I find it very hard to give one click only.

Subject: RE: Multiple Postings:HELP! From: Dale Rose Date: 28 Apr 97 - 02:38 PM Below is a response that I made to another post, after getting an inadvertent second reply. I am pretty sure this is what caused MY problem, though I don't know about anyone else's. OK, I know I did not intentionally post that second message, and I am also sure that Frank did not REALLY mean to post his original six times! I think I have figured out how it happened, though. Before going on to anything else, I hit reload in order to see if anything else had been added to the list before moving on to something else. Then a message asked me if I wanted to repost form data. Well, I had no clear idea what it was talking about and assumed that hitting yes was just part of the reload process. It is, but with the consequence you see above. Next time, I will say NO!! |

Subject: RE: Multiple Postings:HELP! From: Date: 28 Apr 97 - 05:28 PM After you hit the SUBMIT button...DO NOT TRY TO LOOK AND SEE IF YOUR MESSAGE WAS POSTED! Baring an earthquake in So. Cal...IT DID!
DO NOT CLICK THE SUBMIT button again, thinking your message did not get posted!
OH! What's that shaking and rumbling sound I hear?

Subject: RE: Multiple Postings:HELP! From: Moira Cameron Date: 29 Apr 97 - 03:56 AM I know what does it to me-- Sometimes, after I submit a message, I am unable to go back to the discussion page. My computer gives me a choice about reloading from my last message, or reloading the page. Whenever I chose the first option, I found my message repeated every time I had to reload. I don't know why that happens. But when I chose the second option, everything's fine. |

Subject: RE: Multiple Postings:HELP! From: Tilell Date: 11 May 97 - 08:50 PM Well, personally I know that in my writting I often hit "enter" and then try to start a new paragraph by hitting the "tab" key. . . unnoticing that I have now skipped down to the "SUBMIT MESSAGE" button on my browser I often keep typing, either not looking at the screen or expecting lag time and then after a word. . . I hit the spacebar. With my browser, as with most, this has the effect of activating the button which is highlited. . . and thus I get my message posted a few times rather than the one I had intended. |

Subject: RE: Multiple Postings:HELP! From: Dale Rose Date: 11 May 97 - 10:32 PM How about this? Change the button to Submit Message AND RETURN TO DISCUSSION PAGE. Then if someone tries to go back and admire their submission in the next few minutes, throw an illegal operation and a few busy signals at them! [Just kidding about the last part, of course] |
