Subject: Bonny Portmore (chords) again
From: Peter Timmerman - ptimmerman@ifias.ca

I lost the thread of Bonny Portmore without having taken the precaution of downloading it. I got all the lyrics down, and was coming back for the chords when doom struck! If Becky (I believe that was her name) is still willing to send them to me, I would appreciate a resend of the chordal pattern. You were pretty patient the first time around. Thanks again. Yours, Peter

Subject: Lyr Add: GIMME BACK MY FIFTEEN CENTS (Doc Watson)
From: Mountain Dog
Date: 10 Apr 97 - 03:25 PM

Here's a Doc Watson tune of fairly late vintage, a toe-tappin little ditty about domestic disharmony. (I think it was recorded on Blue Sky Records in the mid-to-late 70s, the album named something like "Southern Comfort". In any case, it was one of the all-acoustic Doc and Merle LPs with a sort of "live on the back porch" sound.)

I'm a great fan of Doc's and will try to post lyrics (and such chords as I can glean and fumble from recordings) of some of my favorites as time permits.

GIMME BACK MY FIFTEEN CENTS
Performed by Doc and Merle Watson

I left my home in Tennessee,
Thought I'd learn to travel,
But then I met a pretty little girl
And soon we played the devil
I loved that gal and she loved me
And I thought we'd live together
But then we tied that fatal knot
And now I'm gone forever.

CHORUS: Gimme back my fifteen cents,
Gimme back my money;
Gimme back my fifteen cents
And I'll go home to Mammy.

Twas fifteen cents for the preacher man
A dollar for the paper,
Then dear old mother-in-law moved in
And, Lordy, what a caper!
I fiddled a tune for her one day
And she called me a joker
Then that old sow got mad at me
And hit me with a poker. CHORUS

I worked in town and I worked on the farm,
But there's no way t'suit'em
They're both so dad-burn mean t'me
Somebody oughta shoot'em.
I'm tired of looking at my mother-in-law
I'd like t'see m'Granny,
Gonna leave the state of Arkansas
And go back home t'Mammy! CHORUS
