The E-Discographer #1 May, 2000 Updated June 8

OKeh Research

Ross Laird informs us that he is working with Brian Rust on an OKeh discography for Greenwood Press. Progress is good but there are still gaps, especially in early client and subsidiary labels such as Larkin and the American Odeon 20000 series. An example would be this single-faced commemorative Larkin:

Matrix number is handwritten in the runout at the eleven o'clock position 73-722-B. The selection is a pleasant salon orchestra rendition, the composer is W. M. Isham and the user is instructed to "play slowly". Larkin was once one of America's most successful mail order businesses and OKeh pressed a series of Larkin discs drawn from its regular catalog. Larkin's headquarters were in a Frank Lloyd Wright building on Seneca Ave. in Buffalo, NY. It was the first fully air-conditioned office building in the United States but it was demolished back in 1950. -DD

Mr. Laird writes:
Can you provide more details of these or any other "client" labels... In particular I looking for data on:
Ambassador Record #1
Rational Rhythm Records #1/2, 5/6, 7/8, 11/12 and any higher...
Roach Record #1
Sunshine Record #1, 2 or 3
Sunshine Gospel Record 1001, 1002 & 1003
Thompson Record #1
Wesfield Record #1 & #2
And any un-numbered private pressings... There are certainly other "client" records produced by Okeh for which I have no information.

The following is a list of the Okehs for which I still need mxs. and/or takes. As I already have artist & title data all I need is cat #, mxs/takes and one word of each title (so I know which mx. belongs to which side).
