WHO KILLED THE BLACK WIDOW?
Q from Alice: Can anyone help me??? Thanks. I came across your website. I
wonder if you could help me. I have been
feverishly looking for a silly song that I believe is called "Who killed the
black widow". My father used to sing it to us as kids and I would love to
get my hands on a sounds track. It goes like this.....
Who killed the black widow,
who killed the black widow,
I hit em' on the head with a frying pan
then threw him outside in the garbage can
Who killed the'
Who killed the black widow,
(then there's more that we can't remember....)
A (partial surmise)We haven't been able to find it, but it sounds like an
amalgamation of atake-off on "I'm Lookin' Over A Four Leaf Clover" plus
something else. Anyone else out there know about this one?
WHO'S IZZY IS HE ? Please see I’M GETTING DIZZY OVER IZZY on “I” page
P.G. WODEHOUSE, and SILLY SONGS of the ROARING TWENTIES (eg SUNNY DISPOSISH)
Q. From Lisa W: Hi there folkies!! I am looking for a particular type of
silly song! I don't know if you have ever read Jeeves and Wooster books by
P.G. Wodehouse, Bertie Wooster is a very silly chap and needs the constant
guidance of his butler Jeeves, anyway to come to the point!! There was a
television series on in England in the 90's starring Stephen Fry and Hugh
Laurie as Jeeves and Wooster, well, in this series they sang many a silly
song! I have these silly songs I downloaded them from the internet, but I
was wondering of there were any writers of silly songs in the roaring
twenties, and where can I find them?? I have looked and looked but have come
up with nothing! I will give you an example of 1 of the silly songs in the
TV series it goes:-
Sunny Disposish
It really does'nt pay
to be a bitter pill
Its absolutely most redick
positively sill
The rain may pitter patter
It really doesn't matter
Oh life can be delish
With a sunny disposish!!!
(True twenties speak and v funny!!) Hope you don't think me 2 mad!! Lisa W.
