RAILROAD RUNS THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE HOUSE
RIDING DOWN FROM BANGOR
(THE ) RAILROAD RUNS THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE HOUSE
Q1 from Jan H. I am looking for the words to "The railroad runs through the
middle of the house".
Q2 from Lois A. I would like the music to the "The Railroad Runs through the
Center of the House,"song---in the form of sheet music.
A Here's one version, attributed to Bob Hilliard which notes that
"the railroad comes through the middle of the house."
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
The trains all come through the middle of the house
Since the company bought the land
They let us live in the front of the house
They let us live in the back
But there ain't no livin' in the middle of the house
'Cause that's the railroad track
When a bill collector comes to the house
He knocks and bangs on the door
So we sit him right down in the middle of the house
And he never comes back no more
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
It comes and goes through the middle of the house
And the trains are all on time
Here comes the five-o-nine
Singin' this song
In the middle of the house
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
In and out of the middle of the house
Right smack dab through the middle of the house
Where the parlor used to be
There's a great big door in the front of the house
There's a little old door in the back
But we can't have doors in the middle of the house
'Cause that's the railroad track
A relative came to visit the house
He liked to scream and fuss
So we sat him right down in the middle of the house
And he never more bothered us
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
It comes and goes through the middle of the house
Since the company bought the land.
Here are the expanded lyrics, but no music —try finding an old Vaughn Monroe
recording
VAUGHN MONROE lyrics - "In The Middle Of The House"
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
The trains all come through the middle of the house
Since the company bought the land
They let us live in the front of the house
They let us live in the back
But there ain't no livin' in the middle of the house
'Cause that's the railroad track
When a bill collector comes to the house
He knocks and bangs on the door
So we sit him right down in the middle of the house
And he never comes back no more
No, he never comes back no more
Oh, he railroad comes through the middle of the house
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
It comes and goes through the middle of the house
And the trains are all on time
And here comes the five-o-nine
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
In and out of the middle of the house
Right smack dab through the middle of the house
Where the parlor used to be
There's a great big door in the front of the house
There's a little old door in the back
But we can't have doors in the middle of the house
'Cause that's the railroad track
A relative came to visit the house
He liked to scream and fuss
So we sat him right down in the middle of the house
And he never more bothered us
No, he never more bothered us
Oh, the railroad comes through the middle of the house
The railroad comes through the middle of the house
It comes and goes through the middle of the house
Since the trains are all on time
I'm singing this song in the middle of the house . . .
RIDING DOWN FROM BANGOR
From Sandy S. I have been web searching for over an hour and stumbled across
your site. I am hoping you may know the name (and lyrics) of a song my
grandfather (1900-1975) use to sing to me, or perhaps tell me where to look.
I remember the first verse-
Riding down from Bangor
On an Eastern train
Sat a Harvard student
Charming, slim and swain.
Into an eastern village
That eastern train did glide
Enter village maiden
No one at her side…
The song ended with the maiden getting a spark in her eye and the student
offering to take it out, the train goes into a tunnel and the final lines
are…
(kissing sounds) Isn’t it lots of fun
(kissing sounds) You all know how it’s done!
I loved this song when I was little, probably because of the kissing part,
and wish so much I could remember it all.
I am hoping you know this song.
Sandy S.
