K-K-K-KATY

KEEMO KIMO

KICKING MULE

K-K-K-KATY

K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy

You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore,

When the m-moon shines over the cowshed,

I will meet you at the k-k-k-kitchen door.

KEEMO KIMO

Q1. From Peggy: Hi, I'm trying to find this silly song but I don't know
all of it or the title. Could you help This is all I know:

There was a little frog that lived by a spring,

    keemo-kimo-nee-wah-wah

hi and a ho and a rumple-humple-stumple diddle

loop cat-scoop cat... johnny got a boot jack"

Q2 From Judy S. I saw the words to some kemo-kimo folk songs on your
web-site. My father (born Maine, lived NYC), used to sing a kemo-kimo song
that our extended family still sings to the children and grandchildren to
this day. It goes like this:

There was a frog who could not sing

Sing song kitty, won't you ki-me-oh

He had such a cold that he could not sing

Sing song kitty, won't you ki-me-oh

    Chorus:

    Kemo, Kimo, pat-a-mick-a-murphy

    Dinny O'Fanagan a rock-a-doyle

    Rumma jigga hum-strum

Hit em on the hat band

    Swat nyes Ebanezer ram-za-lo

The words are as I remember them. Do you have the words in your files?
(See below) Do you have the music? (try and follow the path)
Thanks, in advance.

(THE) KICKING MULE

Q: from A.C . Trying to find the words to a humorous song called "The
Kicking Mule." I found a recording in the Lomax collection, but the quality
was too poor to get it all. Could you help find these words

A: Here it is, from "The Folksongs of North America," by Alan Lomax,
1960, p441

The Kickin' Mule

As I went down to the huckleberry picnic

Dinner all over the ground

Skippers in the meat was nine foot deep

And the green flies walking all around.

The biscuits in the oven was a-baking,

Beefsteak frying in the pan,

Pretty gal sitting in the parlour,

Lord God A'mighty, what a hand I stand!

Chorus: Whoa there, mule, I tell you,

Miss Liza, you keep cool,

I ain't got time to kiss you now,

I'm busy with this mule.

✴My uncle had an old mule,

His name was Simon Slick,

'Bove anything I ever did see

Was how that mule could kick. [*see note below]

Went to feed that mule one morning

And he met me at the door with a smile,

He backed one ear and he winked one eye

And he kicked me half a mile. (CHO.)

The mule he am a kicker,

He's got an iron back,

He headed off a Texas railroad train

And kicked it off the track.

He kicked the feathers off a goose,

He pulverized a hog,

He kicked up three dead chinese mans

And swatted him a yellow dog. (CHO.)

When I seen Miss Dinah the other day,

She was bent all over her tub,

And the more I'd ask her to marry me,

Well, the harder she would rub,

Chorus: Well, whoa there, mule, I tell you,

Whoa there, mule, I say,

Just keep your seat, Miss Liza Jane,

And hold on to that sleigh.

[Ed Note:Can't remember where I learned my version of this verse, but it
goes like this:]

✴My uncle had an old mule,

His name was Simon Slick,

'The only thing I ever did see

Was how that mule could kick.

How that mule could kick,

Well, with his dyin' breath,

He shoved his hind legs down his throat,

And kicked himself to death!
