These recordings are from Wire recordings found in a hi-fi console from Sears with a wire recorder on top instead of a phonograph, c. 1950? The console was in an old house my college roomates and me were renting in Urbana, IL, around 1984.

With a little cleaning, I cranked it up -- with microphones in place in case it only worked once -- and heard the prior occupants of the home (an old neighborhood storefront converted to living space), years before, sitting around the kitchen table reciting dirty poetry.
