GALAHAD
Rathflaed DuNoir
The Black Bard of Meridies
mka: Stephen R. Melvin
The gallant knights ride off away,
We cheer them on, this is their day,
For food and drink, for wine and ale,
For now they seek the Holy Grail!
The knights rode off seven months agone,
Each one to find it all alone,
Since then my life has grown apace,
My beard is now upon my face.
It's been three years and we've heard naught,
Save tales of knights with dangers fraught,
From these returned amidst the firs,
Since then I've won my golden spurs.
Five years hence the knights rode off,
I soon leave to search for Geoff,
And others, Lancelot my dad,
Shall hear the name "Sir Galahad"!
I rode out away from sin,
For there the Holy Grail's within,
Not Babylon, corruption's den,
But neath a nest of newborn wrens.
It's been three months since I set out,
I've found three knights turned into louts,
Discouraged, yes, that I might be,
Yet not while the Grail I still can see.
It's been six years, my life's been hard,
I heard my tale from a wand'ring bard,
'Twas grand the stories that he told,
I had not known I was so bold.
I feel so close, my goal is set,
I am at peace and do not fret,
For tis the light that draws me on,
The other day I spoke with fawns.
At last my goal is close at hand,
I'll see the Lord and all his band,
For truly this is all to life,
Not ever shall I see less strife.
I found my Grail and went on home,
They believed me not, but I no more roam,
Thirty years apace they said,
And deny it I can't for white is my head,
At night sometimes I wake with a scream,
Never, my friends, give up your dreams!!
