ELEGY FOR A MAN OF GREATNESS:
FOR CLARENCE "BUCKY" SAPPINGTON
A man of greatness died today,
His own life he threw away,
No more his songs do ring.
To at least one soul, cheer did he bring,
This man I thought a heavenly king,
For now he's gone away.
It is for you, to thee I say,
Don't on a whim, throw life away,
'Tis not for that I sing.
Since thou didst ere life from thee fling,
So till Heaven, we'll not meet again,
A waste thou didst portray!

I LOVED THEE ERE
I loved thee ere thy visage graced mine eyes.
How could I not? I live not lies.
Thy beauty is a thousand suns,
My heart was home my mind undone.
I loved thee ere the stars were brightly placed.
The very form of flowing grace.
I was lost 'til you I found.
Thou art my sight, my scent, my sound.
I loved thee ere the mountains thrust up their snowy caps.
I loved thee fore the world did hap.
Thy pearly smile, thy sun touched hair,
Yet 'tis for thee thyself I care.

EROTION
Erotion, flower of youth arrayed,
I feared for you and so I prayed,
The gods have never been so meet,
So harmless, Cerberus lay for you to greet,
In Charon's eye a tear you laid,
Hades stopped and with you played,
Because thy smile was undismayed,
'Twas you Persephone welcomed and offered a treat,
And gave you for your own a wooded glade,
Elysium was never so bright they said,
Daedalus told you, for thy delight, the tale of his flight
from Crete,
When passed you by, Fantalus found for you some fruit to eat,
Because in gloomy Hades, light was what love made.
