THE DAY:CANTO ONE
DAYBREAK
Darkness-a blanket of night, which most people fear,
Broken by millions of tiny jewels-soon gone.
Many men gather so they won't be alone.
All of them gather from far and from near!
Each nation sings for the dance of the dawn,
God's love for us-our eternal home.
The unanswered question which all of them hear,
When will it happen? It takes only so long.
The gloom becomes brighter, and some children run,
Who will be first to see the sun here?
Each nation sings for the dance of the dawn,
God's love for us-our eternal home.
Gentlefolk wait for the sun to appear,
There-in the distance-is that the sun?
All the good people cry out as one,
"Great thanks to the Lord, for the morning is
here!"
Each nation sings for the dance of the dawn,
God's love for us-our eternal home.
THE DAY:CANTO TWO
THE MORN
Little girls and butterflies,
There beneath the bright blue skies,
'Tis such a grand and beautied day,
As such to throw our cares away,
A picnic in a quiet wood,
These, are the joys of childhood.
That picnic near a silent pond,
Two lovers of whom each is fond,
Before the cares this time has freed,
Enjoy at heart what children need.
THE DAY:CANTO THREE
THE AFTERNOON
The afternoon, the day's middle age,
The time one has to rest,
No more writing on this page,
No more trying to be best,
'Tis time to be wise and sage.
It's time to settle down,
Have wife and kids and all,
Watch till they are grown,
Take time while they're still small,
Too soon they will have flown.
THE DAY:CANTO FOUR
TWILIGHT
The evening comes,
We wait, for soon shall fade the sun,
Its time is near,
And all begin, nighttime to fear,
The dark draws close,
We try to finish before those,
Who are, draw shut the night.
THE DAY:CANTO FIVE
SUNSET
The day is done,
'Tis done at last,
Now fades the sun,
On days just passed.
The moon appears,
A disk of white,
All persons hear,
For now,"Goodnight"
It's now we know,
Tonight shall we,
Our journeys go,
From us to thee.
And as our lives return to earth,
We think,"Tomorrow's a new birth!"
