"If you love warm sweet singing from
the heart, with absolutely perfect arrangements, you'll love this fine CD
from
County Armagh native Briege Murphy. Briege's clear, lovely voice is well-met
by
the instruments. It's clear that a great deal of care and experience went
into
the songs and the arrangements, and it pays off nicely." - Paul Carr,
San Francisco Herald
"One of our more modest talents, Briege's lyrical songs have been picked
by several other singers, including Frances Black and Niamh Parsons. This
album
is her best yet, and is bound to provide more material for others to pick up
on."
- Geoff Harden, Newsletter/ Irish music magazine
"Its a well-balanced
album, and should give hours of pleasure to all those who want to seek a
release from the noise of
pop." - Peadar O Ruairc, Irish News
"A beautiful album" - Tommy
Sands, songwriter
"Take the time to sit and listen and enjoy the talent that
Briege Murphy portrays through her lyrics and her music " - The
Anglo Celt
"The Elm Wood is an enchanting collection of songs" -
The Argus, Dundalk
"The Cd is absolutely superb" - Robert McMillen,

This follow up to Briege's acclaimed debut
album has served to further confirm her status as a songwriter of note and
worth. We continue to hear Briege bring to life through song situations
common
to peoples own experiences.
"A storyteller using sensibly and carefully,
the power of words to great effect and delivering her songs in manner both
disarming and unaffected. Briege Murphy delivers the goods convincingly.
"The Sea & Other Songs" is worthy of being a treasured possession."

This album is a collection of contemporary
folk/country songs, in which Briege has drawn on rural themes, creating a
sense
of place, which has been compared to the works of Patrick Kavanagh. Despite
her
deep roots in traditional music, of which there has been a tremendous
revival in
her home area, there is a definite modern feel to her music. Her intelligent
lyrics and poignant themes have caught the imaginations of her listeners and
won
her the admiration of such notables as Christy Moore, Niamh Parsons and many
others.

Review in "Kansai Time-Out"
magazine, Japan
Two albums from a new (to us) talent from
Northern Ireland. Briege Murphy is very much in the tradition of Irish women
singers and with Mary Black and Dolores Keane to compete with it's a very
strong
field indeed. But both these albums are very rewarding in their own right.
Her
debut, The Longest Road, contains an unusually high number of strong
melodies and thoughtful lyrics, all of them by Ms. Murphy, which the recent
follow-up continues. She's already received attention from the likes of
Christy
Moore and her writing has rightly been described as having echoes of Mary
Chapin-Carpenter. The production is low-key, always tasteful, and both
albums
are top class
performances. JP
