About the Artist
About the Artist
Scott Hendricks was born in Minnesota and moved around the country
until he joined the navy at 18. He was stationed, firstly, on a fast frigate
out of
Yokusuka, Japan for two years and then on a tender stationed out of Oakland
California. He
served for four years, the first half as a machinist mate, and the second
half as a
medical corpsman. He has visited many countries around the world such as
Australia,
Philippines, Guam, Africa, Hong Kong, Western Samoa, Singapore, Thailand,
Korea, to name a
few. Still he always wanted to visit Europe, and got his chance when he got
out of the
Navy, got a job as an optical tech. and promptly won a trip to Paris. While
in Paris he
took a side trip to Amstersdam. He has yet to visit the places he most
dreams of, England,
Ireland and Scotland.
Scott heard of Renaissance Festivals throughout his life but never
went until 1986.
He visited Scarborough Faire in Waxzahachi TX and his socks were
promptly knocked off. By the following year after writing songs, jokes,
etc... he quit his
job, moved out of his apartment, sold his comic collection to help pay the
bills in that
first and very difficult year, and went to Colorado where he had been hired.
His first
season was solo as, Axel of Elismere, (although it was in Colorado when he
first met and
worked with Gibbon the Troubadour). By the next year he had reformed with
his first
partner Hodge the Knave and they performed for a couple of years as Axel and
the Knave.
Then it was solo again (and also the beginning of Axel as a drunk
character).
After a couple of years, Axel teamed up with Gibbon the Troubadour
to form the comedy duo, KEELHAULER. They were quite successful and worked
very well
together complimenting each others style. After a couple of years Axel once
again went
solo.
Just ending his eleventh year, Scott looks to the future and wonders
what it holds. He has entertained thousands around the country and now,
(thanks to the
Internet) countless others around the globe. He has six albums under his
belt (two of
which are available on this Website) Has appeared on TV, Radio, and also in
newspapers. He
also was an extra in the movie Born on the Fourth of July. When asked of his
future plans
and his dreams he states:
" I would love to get an album out, with my contemporary
music. It's just so hard, I need to get a band together to do it and have
found it almost
impossible with all my traveling around. Still I have such confidence in the
material that
I've got to find a way to make it work. Perhaps this winter I might be able
to squeeze out
a four song demo... we'll see. So ideally at some point I would love to form
a rock band
and do my serious music.
"Also, of course, I would love to get into movies, but,
dammit, I'm just so lazy. I'm also an artist (I do all my own art and
production work) and
part time writer (read my short story on Website). But my heart is in
performing, so we'll
see what happens next. Until later, Take care my friends, hope to see you
out at the
Faire!!!"
