PUNUA
by Melinda Caroll

1st Verse
Somewhere near an island in the deep blue sea,
There lives a green sea turtle off of Waikiki.
A friend to fish and man, in her ocean wonderland;
Punua is the spirit of the sea.
With dolphin friends and whales she swims the dancing waves,
And basking in the sun, is how she spends her days.
She lives a life so free, I'm sure you would agree,
How lucky are these turtles of the Sea.

CHORUS

Pu- nu- a
*"He pu-na-wai ka-he wa-le ke A-lo-ha."
Respect the life that lives,
Give what you can give,
Remembering Punua of the Sea.

3rd Verse
Everyday Punua swims she often finds
Something in the waters there that's most unkind.
Forgotten fishing nets, and garbage, that's a threat
To her and all her friends beneath the sea.
So Punua sends a message to her friends above,
"Won't you please remember us and send your love?"
And help us to restore, our lovely ocean floor;
Keep the waters clean for everyone.
*The name Punua is a Hawaiian variation of the name "Juliette"
* The Hawaiian phrase, "He pu-na-wai ka-he wa-le ke a-lo-ha" translates to mean: "Love is a spring that flows freely." Or, "Love is without bounds and exits for all."
