This is a 1960s reissue early and late party records. The Sam Sneek material is from the 1960s whereas The Gold Game is from the late 1930s.
Since the advent of the phonograph industry Americans have been making party records and until very recently, it was almost a comic opera to buy one. The potential owner would walk into a record shop, boldly looking everyone straight in the eye, walk right up to the counter and ask for Rudy Vallee or something. When he was told they were out of stock, he would say, as if he was about to declare himself for mayor, "I'll look around," then browse, sometimes for hours waiting for the store to clear. then sneak up to the counter again and whisper "You don't carry any of those party records do you? I'm doing research on morals for the university." The proprietor would smile ever so slightly, reach under the counter and produce one of the best selling records in the store. In those days something like "Silent George" (which is included in this album). Ah, you remember, do you? Isn't it interesting how much our morals have deteriorated with all those people doing research on this subject. Well, today they tell us we no longer need some high purpose to enjoy life so you don't need to be a member of a committee to buy this record. Although, if you're on the entertainment committee at your house, you ought to. This album contains some of the best selling party records of our era. Most of which you might have heard on the jukebox of your favorite fun spot - (that's a bar in laymen's language). All of them are proven hits - and all designed to produce a giggle and a blush. So take this record out whenever you're in the mood to have a little naughty fun. |
