Stackerlee

Talk about your gamblers,
Ought to see that Stackerlee,
Shot a hundred dollars
Come out on a three.

(Refrain):

When you lose your money,
Learn to lose.

I'll remember one September,
On a Friday night:
Billy Lyons and Stackerlee
They had an awful fight.

(Refrain)

Billy Lyons shot six bits,
Stackerlee bet he passed.
Stackerlee took out his forty-five,
Said, "You done shot your last."

(Refrain)

Lord, a woman come a-runnin',
Fell down on her knees,
Cryin', "Oh, Mr. Stackerlee,
Don't shoot my brother, please!"

(Refrain)

The Judge, he told the sheriff,
"Get him, dead or alive."
"How in the hell can we bring him in
When he totes a forty-five?"

(Refrain)

The deputies took their badges,
Laid them on the shelf,
Sayin', "If you want that Stackerlee,
You get him by yourself."

(Refrain)

Stackerlee went to Heaven,
Sent him down to Hell,
"We don't want no gamblin' here;
We don't want you, as well.*

(Refrain)

The devil's little children
Went scramblin' up the wall,
Sayin', "You better catch him, Daddy,
Before he murders us all."

(Refrain)
