Jan. 30 2001 -  Rainer Otter wrote to Lydia Fish via email:

I got a new song book.  It is a collection from the TLP of the years 1997-2000.  So it is a collection of an intelligence officer, a young captain of the USAF.  TLP is the "Tactical Leadership Programm" for qualified pilots.  All NATO countries are participants.  So the songbook refelcts the songs, the you pilots sung the last three years.  Until 1998 the TLP was at Jever (Germany) now it is iat Florennes (Belgium).  The booklet consists of 164 pages!! ...That captain did a fine job!

Reading the songs, I had some thoughts about the guys.  The young pilots, mostly born after 1970 grew up in an sexual liberated environment.  Why should their songs be the same as ours?  I joint the Air Force in 1972, when these guys were born, I flew already fighter.  So, even fi the songs to a lot of people might e offending, they reflect the social society they grew up.

Some songs are still the old one.  Because they are the "bridge" to the old, experienced pilots, the "examples".  But a lot are not related anymor to flying, duty...  They refelct the "fun-society" as we say in Germany.

So, if we want to preserve the songs, sung by aircrews of our Air Forces, we have to conserve these songs also. Closing ears and eyes will not change the young generation, nor will it change the "fun-generation".  Thinging about these lyriks, made me thing about "time's a changing", constantly, even more rapitly.  If we like it or not.  I have a son, who is 20 and in the Air Force.  He won't understand some feelings, heartachs of me anymore.  The lyriks sung after the job is done will reflect it.

So, the songs are a gauge for the changing.
